Dear Member, 7th April, 2007
The day of Poila Baisakh bears immense significance in the life of bengalis. It is not only the first day of the year, but also it is the day of hope, of reckoning and of surprises
Following the traditions, we intend to celebrate the occasion of PRE POILA BAISAKH in an elaborate fashion on Saturday, 14th April 2007, 7.30 pm onwards.
We will be having the very renowned and versatile vocalist Smt. PRABHATI MUKHERJEE to entertain us with her melodious voice.
Smt. Prabhati Mukherjee is a well accepted vocalist of India with a huge track record who initially started with pure classical music at her eight years of age and gradually diverted herself into various channels of light classical and light music. She is one of the best performers of Patiala and Kirana Gharana. As she was under training of Ustad Bade Gulam Ali Khan Sahab and Begum Akhtar, she has become an unique combination of these two members. This feature makes her unique, identical and widely acceptable to huge segment of listeners.
The Bhajans of her voice gives a spiritual glimpse. Her style of presenting Thumris and Dadraas create a majestic mood. A pure antique and traditional feeling is always reflected through her Ghazals. Her style of presenting Khayal proves how deep she is inside the ocean of spiritual blend of the Gharana Patiala>
She was encouraged by her parents from the age of seven. Later she was trained by Ustad Mehedi Hossain Khan at her eight year of age. Next she took talim from Mira Bandopadhyay. She had a very hard training those days. As a result, the grace of God and her sincerity awarded her with six “Rastrapati Awards” in annual All India Radio competition. After that the sky became her limit. She was included as a vocalist of All India Radio Calcutta and Doordarshan Calcutta.
She bagged the “Suromani” Title Award from the hands of Lata Mangeskar, major awards like “Sangeet Prabhakar” form Allahabad, “Surosri” from Lucknow etc. came her way one after other. Even she was utilized by couple of music directors for playback and modern songs, like Hemant Kumar, V. Balsara, Nachiketa Ghosh, Rabin Chatterjee, Sailen Mukherjee, Gyan Prakash Ghosh, Kalyan Sen Barat, Tapan Sinha etc. for the films like Sansar Simantey, Bisha Brikha, Doctor, Agniswar, Teen Murti etc. She appeared from records like Senola, H.M.V., Inreco etc. as the generation changed, she again appeared from regional cassette companies like Bethoven, Rajharshi etc.
Above all the greatest gift of God is the appreciation from the audience through her shows in various cities of India and abroad which lifted her just below the fulfillment level. Because, the thrust of real talents have never ever been fulfilled.
